Meet the artist
Carolina de Bartolo
Carolina de Bartolo is an artist, designer, and typophile based in San Francisco. She holds a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and taught typography and design history at Academy of Art University for more than 20 years.
She wrote, designed and independently published «Explorations in Typography» with Erik Spiekermann and Stephen Coles. Now in its second edition paperback, the book shows a single text typeset in more than 100 ways—an analog generative design project. It was recognized by the Type Directors Club and AIGA’s 50 Books/50 Covers.
From 2021 to 2023 she was Creative Director at Art Blocks, where she led the rebrand that’s still in use today. She was a member of the 6th cohort of the Vertical Crypto Art residency, and designed the first two posters for Glitch Marfa’s e30d, one for XCOPY and one for Claire Silver.
