— Erick Calderon (Snowfro), Founder & CEO, Art Blocks
When Art Blocks founder Erick Calderon first experienced Donald Judd's 100 untitled works in mill aluminum, it validated his perspective on generative art. The work wasn't coded in JavaScript or rendered on a computer, but it captured two core ideas central to on-chain generative art: permanence and variability. The Art Blocks house in Marfa is a tribute to that lineage — to the artists creating on the blockchain today, and to the pioneers who laid the foundation for computers as an artistic medium.
That spirit shapes Art Blocks Marfa Weekend. The setting plays its own role: with just 1,600 residents, Marfa strips away distraction and turns your attention toward the community gathered within it. What began as an intimate meeting of artists and collectors has grown, over five years, into a global gathering — artists, collectors, brands, community members, and the generative-art-curious arriving from more than 20 countries. About 57% return every year. The other 43% always say the same thing afterward: why did I wait so long?
